Motorcycles made up just 3 percent of all registered vehicles in the United States in 2015, but motorcyclists were 29 times more likely than private passenger occupants to die in a motor vehicle crash and five times more likely to be injured, according to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Every year millions of motorists by choice or necessity engage in a widely-practiced highway pastime: towing a trailer behind their car or pickup truck. I’m one of them.
